If HoloLens 2 and Apple Vision Pro are premium investments for advanced AR/MR use cases, Meta Quest 3 (€549) and Quest 3S (€299) represent the ideal solution for democratising VR and mixed reality in enterprise — particularly for training and onboarding. With a €3,000 budget, you equip 10 trainees with Quest 3S where you can only equip one with HoloLens 2.

The major development of 2024–2025: Meta added high-resolution colour passthrough to Quest 3, enabling mixed reality (AR passthrough) at a quality level unexpected at this price point. Not HoloLens 2 level for industrial MR, but sufficient for many light guidance and inspection use cases.

Recommended Enterprise Use Cases

Immersive VR Training (Primary Use Case)

VR training is the use case where Meta Quest offers the best value. HSE training modules, procedure simulation, onboarding, and emergency situation training can be deployed on a Quest 3S fleet at 1/10th the cost of premium headsets. Myxed training modules are Quest 3/3S-compatible: xAPI/SCORM for LMS integration, gesture-based evaluation, immediate feedback.

Light Mixed Reality: Guidance and Inspection

Quest 3's colour passthrough enables overlaying instructions, 3D models, and indicators on the real world view. Quality sufficient for: simple assembly guidance (without precise spatial anchoring), documentary inspections (displaying an AR checklist), product demonstrations in AR for sales teams. Limitation: Quest 3 lacks the precise world tracking of HoloLens 2. Holograms may drift slightly in space — for guided maintenance with precise spatial anchoring, HoloLens 2 remains necessary.

3D Visualisation and Design Review

Visualising CAD models in immersive VR is possible on Quest 3 at very satisfactory quality — for reviews without physical space anchoring needs, Quest 3 is well-suited and far less expensive than Vision Pro or HoloLens 2.

Meta Quest for Business: Enterprise Fleet Management

Meta Quest for Business enables: remote application deployment across the fleet, user and access rights management, application restriction (kiosk mode), usage tracking by device and user, remote device updates. Price: ~€8/device/month. Compatible with third-party MDM: Jamf, ManageEngine, ArborXR (most widely used MDM for enterprise Quest fleets). Myxed deploys and manages Quest for Business fleets for its clients.

Enterprise Deployment Considerations

Meta account & GDPR: Since 2023, devices can use a Meta work account without Facebook account. GDPR concerns regarding Meta data collection persist — Myxed recommends a GDPR analysis for sensitive sector deployments (defence, healthcare, finance). No IP rating: not suitable for dusty or wet industrial environments. Use in clean indoor environments (training rooms, offices, showrooms). 2–3h battery: plan charging infrastructure for half-day intensive training (secured charging carts for 10+ device fleets).

Frequently Asked Questions

For standard VR training, Quest 3S (€299) is sufficient. For mixed reality passthrough and client demonstrations, Quest 3 (€549) offers better display quality and a wider FOV. Budget priority → Quest 3S. Image quality priority → Quest 3.

Yes, if apps support xAPI or SCORM. Myxed Quest modules natively integrate these standards. Verify xAPI report compatibility with your LMS vendor (most modern LMS support xAPI).

Locally installed apps run without internet. Remote app deployment via Quest for Business requires a connection. In kiosk mode (single app loop), Quest can operate fully offline once the app is installed.
